Applies to at least ROM images 1.12, 1.13, 2.13, 2.38 (note bug in these ROMS SL-5500 3.10, SL-5600 1.10)

This program requires Java. Download Jeode Java for Zaurus (for ROM versions where Java is not included). Note: The SL-6000 provides a J2ME implementation by Sun, and does not require Jeode to be loaded

Connecting a Zaurus SL-6000, SL-5600, SL-5500, SL-C7xx, SL-C860 (and SL-5000D) to the internet via a dialup connection can be easy or hard depending on the approach you take. First note that the Zaurus "Network & Snyc" app does not work properly for dialup connections on most (if not all) versions of Zaurus ROM.

The Zaurus needs to be in 'init3' (ROMs prior to 3.10) mode for dialup connectivity to work. Put Zaurus in init3 mode.

For 3.10 version of ROM see the PPP connectivity bug that affects connections created with Dialup Manager.

After putting the Zaurus in init3 mode, you then have a choice, use the hard method, or the easy way.

The hard method. Install the Terminal Create app then create scripts for the ppp daemon, and the chat utility. Run the scripts, and when connected launch a program to produce network activity against a machine on the Internet (this will prevent the connection from timing out due to lack of activity).

The easy way. Use the Dialup Manager app

Download Dialup Manager (requires Jeode JVM).

Note: Dialup Manager is specifically designed for use with ZThinCable RS-232 (not ZThinCable USB)

Note: Dialup Manager must be run with root priviledges for SL-5500 ROM 3.10 and later, and SL-5600 1.10 ROM and later.

Next two image shows SL-5600 connected over a dialup connection using a cell phone. The connection was established and maintained using the Zaurus Dialup Manager app. More Screens.
