ZThinCableTM RS-232

What cable do I need?

This page is designed to help you in choosing what model of ZThinCable you need.

RS-232 connectivity is so simple that sometimes it can seem confusing. The basis of choosing a ZThinCable model is the type/gender of connector you want to plug ZThinCable into.

Note the -X in the model number signifies the cable length in feet, so an M-DB9-4 is a 4' cable with a male connector.

The M-DB9 models plug into a female connector, if your device has a connector similar to that shown at left, choose the M-DB9 model.

Examples: GPS receivers, modems, Cisco Catalyst Switches (with Cisco supplied RJ-45-to-DB-9 female adapter)

Note: M-DB9 ZThinCable will have opposite gender to this.

The F-DB9 models plug into a male connector, if your device has a connector similar to that shown at left, choose the F-DB9 model.

Example: PC - Use the F-DB9 as an Intellisync cable.

Note: F-DB9 ZThinCable will have opposite gender to this.

Note that flexibility is not scarificed when choosing one model over. When used with a null modem adaptor or cable (and a gender changer, depending on the model of null modem adaptor or cable) ZThinCable 'becomes' the alternate model. For example the M-DB9 used with a null modem adaptor 'becomes' a F-DB9.
