The featherweight unit allows simple one-handed scanning in virtually all environments. The comfortable size is specially designed to fit both small and large hands alike, allowing comfortable one-handed use. Many environments like health care virtually require one-handed use because the other hand is required for other purposes. The scanner has no batteries providing freedom from the headaches associated with scanners containing batteries. The affect on Zaurus battery life is extremely minimal since the scanner is off when not scanning. The scanner uses long proven CCD imaging technology CCD, so there are no moving parts. This provides more durability, and reliability than laser scanners which have moving parts. The CCD technology means you are free from the associated safety issues of using laser scanners. The unique design allows the scanner to be quickly and easily attached or detached from the Zaurus - typically in less than 3 seconds. Using the included SledMagic software, data can be used in existing Zaurus software with no software modifications. Software is enabled with a simple tap on the taskbar icon. SledMagic is a version of the popular SerialMagic application custom designed for zFree Hand. The scanner allows full access to the Compact Flash (CF) slot for use with other peripherals such as a wireless access card. (A Socket 802.11b WLAN card is shown installed in the image. The scanner reads all major barcode symbologies. UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13 , Code128, Code 39 Full, Code39, Interleaved 2 of 5, and Codabar are all supported. The scanner has a scan width up to 1.85" (47mm) when contacted to the barcode surface, and has resolution to 0.15mm, so it can easily read the majority of all printed barcodes. The scanner has the same unique and proven feature as the ZThinCable product, so the Zaurus keypad can be used normally when the scanner is attached.
