Quick Start How ToQuick Start how-to (howto) for setting up a network mapped drive on OS X. Here is an 'QuickStart HowTo' on mapping a network drive from OS X (Jaguar 10.2.6) to a Windows machine. From the Finder menu, select "Connect to Server"
Depending on the network state, version of Windows, etc. there may or may not be names for the servers. The most direct way to connect to the Windows server is using the IP address as shown in the example below. Note: Use the IP address format as shown in the address field, NOT that shown in the right panel of the dialog. Then click Connect.
You should see the "Connecting To Server" dialog...
and the "SMB Authentication" dialog. Enter the "Username" and "Password", and if you wish to not enter this information in the future when connection, click the "Add to Keychain" option.
Now click OK to choose the default share or...
Click the share list and pick you share you want to mount.
The share should then show up in Finder.
Note: OS X makes networking so simple, that you may forget that a network share has been mounted, and attempt to mount it again. When this occurs, you will likely see an erorr in the "Connecting To Server" dialog like this.
If this occurs, be sure the share is not already mounted. To access the mounted share (mapped network drive) note that Network shares on OS X are hidden. The list of mounted shares can be obtained by running Terminal and issuing the following command "ls /Volumes"
The volume name can then be used to create a name. For example, it can be used with ScanChamp® to specify a network file name where the scans are stored. |
