Use Scanfob 2002 with Apple OS X 10.5 via Bluetooth HID (scanner behaves like keyboard)

This document outlines setting up the Scanfob 2002 in HID mode with OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Download and print Scanfob HID setup barcodes.

Open the Bluetooth dialog by clicking on the Apple in the Menubar and selecting System Preferences.

Select Bluetooth under the Hardware section.

Click on the "+" icon as shown below.

You should get the screen below, click "Continue"

On the "Select Device Type" dialog shown below, select "Any device".

1) Set Scanfob 2002 to Bluetooth HID mode by scanning the barcode labeled "HID" on the setup sheet.

2) Make the scanner discoverable by scanning barcode labeled "Make Discoverable and Connectable."

Click "Continue" on the "Select Device Type" dialog shown below to begin scanning for devices.

The Scanfob device should be displayed as "Keyboard" in the Bluetooth Type column as shown below.

Click the "Passkey Options..." button on the "Bluetooth Device Setup" dialog shown below

Select "Use a specific passkey" on the Passkey Options dialog as shown below, then click "OK"

You should see the screen below, click "Continue"

You should get dialog as shown below - "Bluetooth Device Setup - Enter a passkey to pair with your keyboard".

Since this PIN code must be scanned by the Scanfob to complete the pairing process, the simplest code to enter is "0" (one zero),
but you may choose your own PIN code as well. Remember it!

You should get dialog as shown below and the Scanfob should begin emitting a constant laser beam and a chirping
sound to indicate the Bluetooth Passkey (PIN) needs to be entered.

Scan the control barcode for the digit "0" (or a different code that you chose) from the printed setup page, followed by the barcode labeled "END."

Shortly after scanning the "END" control barcode above, the Scanfob should emit a long tone to indicate it has Bluetooth connected,
and the dialog below should be shown.

Click "Quit" and you can then scan barcodes and have them typed at the cursor location in any application on OS X.

Using SerialMagic Professional with many Bluetooth scanners is much simpler than with Bluetooth HID
and is many times more powerful.

Note: Scanfob is sometimes known as the OPN-2002 wireless Bluetooth scanner, except Scanfob 2002 has customized firmware.
