Troubleshooting - Scanfob 2002 Bluetooth Laser Barcode Scanner
General Scanfob 2002 issues
Symptom: The scanner will not make a laser when pressing the scanning button.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| The Scanfob battery has expired. | The Scanfob must be charged before use. Connect to a powered USB port for about 4 hours. |
| The Scanfob needs to be reset. | See the section below on unexpected scanner behavior. |
Symptom: Pressing the small function button on the Scanfob 2002 does not toggle the on-screen keyboard on my iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| The active cursor is not in a text area. | The cursor in the iOS device must be in a typable text area. Tap on the screen in a text area to show the cursor and keyboard. |
| The keyboard toggle feature is not enabled. | Scan the barcode located on the setup document labeled Enable iOS Keyboard Toggle. Once enabled, press the small function button on the Scanfob to toggle the iOS keyboard. |
| The Scanfob 2002 requires a firmware update. | If the Enable iOS Keyboard Toggle barcode cannot be scanned, the Scanfob may require a firmware update. Please contact SerialIO technical support regarding a firmware update for your Scanfob 2002. |
Symptom: When I try to scan a barcode, I aim the laser beam at the barcode, but no data appears on my screen, the scanner does not beep, and the laser eventually turns off.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| The scanner is too close or too far from the barcode, or at an incorrect angle. | Try scanning at different distances and angles so that you can become accustomed to the most effective position. We recommend a distance of 2-10 inches and at a 60° angle. |
| The barcode is incorrectly formatted, damaged, or poorly printed. | Try scanning other barcodes that are correctly formatted, printed clearly, and are in good condition. The Scanfob 2002 has an exceptional scan engine that by default only accepts UPC codes that are printed to the UPC specification. |
| The Scanfob needs to be reset. | See the section below on unexpected scanner behavior. |
Symptom: My computer/device cannot find the Scanfob, or I get an error message saying that there was a problem with the connection.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| The computer/device is too far from the Scanfob. | Move the devices closer together, within a range of 10-20 meters (about 30-60 feet). |
| The Scanfob is not powered on. | Turn on the Scanfob Bluetooth radio. |
| The Scanfob is in the incorrect Bluetooth mode. | Verify that the Scanfob is in the correct Bluetooth mode for your device. |
| The Scanfob needs to be reset. | See the section below on unexpected scanner behavior. |
Symptom: After scanning a barcode, odd behaviors occur, such as different functions being invoked in my application, or special unexpected characters are displayed in the application.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| Because the Scanfob in HID mode emulates a Bluetooth keyboard, only characters that can be found on a keyboard are accessible. |
|
- The blue LED on the Scanfob blinks endlessly.
- The laser beam will not scan a properly formatted and printed barcode.
- The laser beam is not emitted from the scanner when I use the scan button.
| Possible Reason | Solution |
| The Scanfob is locked up or "stuck" and isn't performing as expected. | Perform a reset on the Scanfob 2002 by holding the small function button for 30 seconds, then release. There should be a series of beeps indicating that the reset was successful. If this process did not reset the scanner or correct the issue, please contact SerialIO technical support. |
